Carleton University
As I finished my degree, I worked as a Communications Assistant in the Office of the Vice-President (Students and Enrolment).
Working there for a year and a half afforded me the opportunity to do a little bit of everything - social media management and content creation (including written content, hosting weekly videos and photography), social plans, brand strategy, and working on our website. In my final year, I took the initiative to revive our student life blog, Quote the Raven, curated content from other students, and managed the social media inboxes.
Convocation Strategy
I took the initiative to create a digital communications strategy for our coverage of the annual Convocation ceremonies at the University. As a part of the strategy, I was responsible for creating a digital communications plan for social media, ensuring to strategic promote Honorary degree recipients and graduate success stories. I also covered the events live on Instagram and Twitter and captured photo and video content to be used for future projects.
Photo and Video
To support our content strategy, I took a core role in creating content for our digital platforms.
That included producing, hosting, filming, and editing a weekly update segment for Instagram Stories and taking and curating photos of the campus for future digital projects.
Quote the Raven
I took the initiative to propose a plan to revitalize the blog, including finding a new name and revamping the content management strategy. I implemented my recommendations, which included re-naming the blog Quote the Raven, refreshing the visuals, brainstorming ways to generate content, writing my pieces, editing the work of other students, and finding ways to use the content to support existing strategic goals within the portfolio.
